Choosing the right puppy—and the right breeder—is a big decision. We want our families to understand our Pomskies, our breeding program, and what to expect before bringing a puppy home. Below are answers to some of the questions we receive most often about our puppies, sizes, pricing, application process, and how we raise our dogs.

A Pomsky is a companion dog developed from Siberian Husky and Pomeranian ancestry. Pomskies are known for combining the beautiful, expressive appearance associated with the Husky with the smaller size and companion qualities of the Pomeranian.

Today, Pomskies can vary considerably in size, coat, coloring, eye color, and temperament depending on their lineage and the goals of the breeder. At Portland Pomskies, we make intentional breeding selections based on much more than appearance. Health, temperament, structure, size, and suitability as a family companion are all important parts of our program.

Our goal is not simply to produce a “tiny Husky.” We strive to raise beautiful, well-adjusted companions that families can enjoy as part of their everyday lives.

What is a Purse Pomsky?

Our Purse Pomsky is a specialized companion-focused line within our breeding program. We introduced long-haired Chihuahua lineage into select Pomsky lines—not simply to make the dogs smaller, but to help develop a different style of companion.

Our goal is a portable, affectionate dog with a greater natural tendency to settle, relax, stay close to its person, and comfortably accompany them through everyday life.

Purse Pomskies can still retain many of the beautiful characteristics people love about Pomskies while being selectively developed toward the temperament and lifestyle qualities we want from this line. Because it is a developing lineage, individual size, appearance, coat, and temperament can vary, and we do not guarantee an exact adult personality or size.

Pomskies can mature at a wide range of adult sizes, which is why you may see terms such as Micro, Toy, Mini, and Standard used to describe them. These terms are helpful for communicating an expected size range, but they should not be viewed as a guarantee of a puppy’s exact adult weight.

At Portland Pomskies, we estimate a puppy’s expected adult size using several factors, including the size and genetics of the parents, previous puppies produced from the same bloodlines, the puppy’s birth weight, growth rate, and overall development.

Even with generations of breeding experience and carefully selected pairings, genetics can surprise us. Two puppies from the same litter can mature at noticeably different sizes, which is why we prefer to give families an estimated adult range rather than promise an exact number on the scale.

Generally, the terms move from smallest to largest as Micro → Toy → Mini → Standard, but there is no universally recognized weight chart used by every Pomsky breeder. One breeder’s definition of a “Micro” or “Mini” may be different from another breeder’s.

For us, the label is only part of the picture. Health, structure, temperament, and quality of life always matter more than producing the smallest possible dog. Our goal is to help each family choose a puppy whose anticipated size and personality are a good fit for their lifestyle.

We provide an estimated adult size for our puppies based on their individual development and the information we have from their bloodlines. As a puppy grows, we can often refine that estimate, but no ethical breeder can guarantee an exact adult weight.

Genetics, growth patterns, body structure, nutrition, and other factors can all influence a dog’s eventual size. We would rather give our families a realistic range and explain how we arrived at it than promise that a puppy will remain under a particular weight.

If having a dog within a very specific adult size range is especially important to you, please tell us during the application process. We can help you evaluate which of our available puppies or upcoming pairings may be the best fit.

The price of our puppies varies depending on the individual puppy, pairing, expected adult size, characteristics, and the goals behind that particular breeding. Current pricing is listed with our available puppies whenever possible so families can see pricing before applying or inquiring.

Our puppies are not priced solely according to size or appearance. A great deal goes into thoughtfully producing and raising each litter, including careful breeding selections, health and veterinary care, early socialization, training, individual attention, and the time we invest in preparing each puppy for life with their new family.

We encourage families to choose the puppy that best fits their lifestyle and personality rather than making a decision based only on price, color, eye color, or expected adult weight.

Not every Pomsky puppy is the same, even within the same litter. Pricing may vary based on factors such as lineage, expected adult size, coat and markings, eye color, rarity of certain characteristics, and the individual puppy.

Some of our specialized breeding projects, including our Purse Pomsky line, may also be priced differently because of the generations of selective breeding and development involved.

Regardless of price, every puppy receives the same commitment to care and preparation while with us. A higher-priced puppy does not receive better treatment than another puppy—the difference reflects the individual puppy and breeding rather than the level of care they receive.

Portland Pomskies does not maintain a traditional waitlist where families place a deposit and wait to be assigned a puppy. We prefer to give families the opportunity to see our puppies and upcoming litters and choose the puppy that feels right for them.

Available puppies are posted on our website, and upcoming pairings and expected litters are announced as information becomes available. Families interested in a particular puppy can submit an application once that puppy is available.

We also offer puppy alerts so interested families can stay informed about upcoming litters, application dates, and newly available puppies.

When you find a puppy you are interested in, the first step is to complete our Pomsky Application. The application helps us learn more about you, your household, your experience with dogs, and the type of companion you are looking for.

We take placement seriously and want each puppy to go to a home that is prepared for the lifelong responsibility of dog ownership. Completing an application does not automatically guarantee approval or guarantee that a particular puppy will remain available.

Once your application has been reviewed, we will contact you regarding the next steps.

Once your application has been approved and you have selected an available puppy, a 50% deposit is required to reserve that puppy. The remaining balance is due when the puppy reaches 6 weeks of age.

A puppy is not considered reserved until the required deposit has been received and the applicable terms have been completed. Because our puppies can receive interest from multiple families, we recommend applying when you are genuinely prepared to move forward.

You are welcome to follow our Upcoming Pomsky Litters and sign up for puppy announcements so you know what pairings we have planned. However, because we do not operate a traditional waitlist, families generally apply when puppies become available for application.

This allows you to see the actual puppies rather than committing to a puppy before knowing its individual appearance, development, and other characteristics.

Do I have to live in Oregon to purchase a Portland Pomskies puppy?

No. Although Portland Pomskies is located in Portland, Oregon, our puppies join families throughout the United States. You do not need to live locally to apply for or purchase one of our puppies.

Families are welcome to travel to Portland to pick up their puppy, and hand-delivery options may also be available for families who are unable to travel to us.

We want distance to be manageable while still making the puppy’s safety and comfort our priority.

Do you ship Pomsky puppies?

We do not ship our puppies as unattended cargo. 

We believe the transition from our home to yours should be as safe and comfortable as possible for the puppy.

Instead, families may travel to Portland to pick up their puppy, or we may be able to arrange personal hand delivery for an additional fee.

If hand delivery is arranged, the puppy travels accompanied rather than being placed into an airline’s unattended cargo system.

Yes, hand delivery may be available depending on your location, travel arrangements, and scheduling.

Delivery costs vary depending on the destination and may include airfare, an airline-approved travel carrier, veterinary or health documentation when required, airline pet fees, and other travel-related expenses.

Can I fly to Portland to pick up my puppy?

Absolutely. Families from outside Oregon are welcome to travel to Portland, Oregon to pick up their puppy.

We will coordinate your puppy’s pickup with you in advance and provide information to help you prepare for traveling home together. If you plan to fly, we recommend checking your airline’s current pet policies and requirements before making travel arrangements, as airline rules can vary.

Many families enjoy being able to meet us personally and travel home with their new puppy themselves.

I would actually hold off on publishing an answer to this one until we define exactly which countries you’re willing and legally able to serve and how you handle international transport.

Since you eventually want worldwide customers, this could become an excellent page of its own—but we don’t want the website promising worldwide delivery until the logistics, import requirements, age restrictions, health certificates, vaccinations, and destination-country requirements are clear.

Yes. Health testing is an important part of our breeding program. Our breeding dogs receive genetic testing through Embark, which helps us screen for inherited genetic health conditions and make more informed breeding decisions.

Once our breeding dogs reach 2 years of age, we also complete applicable OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) testing as part of our health screening program.

Health testing cannot guarantee that a dog or puppy will never experience a health problem, but it gives us valuable information that helps us make thoughtful breeding decisions with the long-term health of our puppies in mind.

Complete terms, requirements, exclusions, and coverage are outlined in our sales contract, and we encourage every family to review the contract carefully before reserving a puppy.

Our puppies are raised with hands-on care, individual attention, and regular interaction from an early age. We believe the environment in which a puppy spends its first weeks can have an important influence on how prepared they are for life with their new family.

As they grow, our puppies receive age-appropriate socialization and opportunities to experience normal household interaction, handling, different sights and sounds, and positive experiences with people.

We also keep our future families involved as their puppies develop by sharing photos, videos, milestones, and updates along the way. Our goal is to help make the transition from our home to yours as smooth and positive as possible.

Yes. Our relationship with our families doesn’t end when a puppy leaves Portland Pomskies.
